Description

4000BC EARLY BRONZE AGE EUROPEAN CERAMIC EARTHENWARE GRAVE VESSEL

  • This Early Bronze Age earthenware vessel originating from Central to South-Eastern Europe has an oblate body with two opposed loop handles to a slightly flared rim. This piece was uncovered from a grave, leading researchers to deduce that this piece was buried alongside the deceased after being used in a funerary practice.A rare opportunity to own an important piece of ancient history from the Early Bronce Age in Europe.
  • Many European Neolithic to Early Bronze Age groups shared basic characteristics, such as living in small-scale, family-based communities, subsisting on domesticated plants and animals supplemented with the collection of wild plant foods and with hunting, and producing hand-made pottery. There are also many differences, with some communities in south-eastern Europe living in heavily fortified settlements of 3,000–4,000 people whereas groups in Britain were small (possibly 50–100 people) and highly mobile cattle-herders.The details of the origin, chronology, social organization, subsistence practices and ideology of the peoples of Neolithic to Early Bronze Age Europe are obtained from archaeology, and not historical records, since these people left none.
  • Dated to 4000-2000 B.C. (Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age)
  • Size: 50mm x 45mm x 45mm
  • Literature: A Guide to the Antiquities of the Bronze Age London, 1920, pl.IX, for similar vessels.
  • Provenance: This piece was from the personal collection of a prominent East Anglian antiquarian and academic, acquired by the expert antiquarian between circa. 1960-1980.
  • Condition: This piece is extremely well preserved and remains in excellent condition - refer images.
  • Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Internationally recognised BidSafe authentication and verification number: 4998153-45)
  • Inspected and verified by an archaeologist and prominent historical author with a PhD in archaeology. (SN:4998153-45) (316437-1)
