Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

In 1913, eager to expand the flourishing family business, the viticultural pioneer, E.J. Roberts spotted an ideal place next to the Melbourne to Mildura railway line. Foiled by the local railway Engineer in his attempts to lease the land, the founder went straight to the Chairman of Railway Commissioners in Melbourne. As his diary relates, "After quite a friendly all-round talk…he told the Engineer to let me have it". Commissioner's Block is a tribute to the Commissioner, the wines reflect the character of the region and the passion of the grape grower and the winemaker.

Made from selected vineyards in Langhorne Creek; one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. The vines sit atop an ancient natural floodplain with fertile alluvial soils perfect for grape growing. The region has a proud history of family owned and run vineyards, which include the oldest family owned Cabernet vines in production in the world.

These high quality grapes have resulted in intense varietal flavours. Medium-bodied and well-rounded with red forest fruit flavours. It finishes with fine savory tannins, persistent red fruit flavours and light vanillin oak notes. This wine shows varietal character of typical Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose. Complex spicy characters of sage and eucalyptus accompanied with cassis and raspberry aromas. To be enjoyed now or savour the rewards following several years of careful cellaring.
