Thomson Estate Ferry Crossing Shiraz Grenache 2021 (12x 750mL) SA

Description:

1838 was the year Walter Thomson, with wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended by our vignerons to create wines of great intensity. When crossing the Murray River and bridges are miles away, there is the need for a ferry or punt. Close to our vineyard is the Morgan ferry which connect the Norwest bend to south of the river. The Riverland region has the greatest days of sunshine and a pristine climate for premium grape growing on our limestone soils.

WINEMAKING

The Riverland has an ideal climate to ripen Shiraz and Grenache. The balanced warm days and cool nights gives fruit the perfect ripening conditions. The red sandy loam overlying ancient sheet limestone enables water to be drawn away from the vine, so the grape bunches and berries are of perfect size and flavour. The richness of the fruit in its natural state meant that minimal intervention was required in the winery. Kept separate these

parcels were left on skins for some time in order to develop the keen tannin structure, then fermented in stainless steel.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

COLOUR

Deep ruby red colour.

AROMA

Mouth-watering red fruit aromas with savory apple skin notes from the Grenache.

PALATE

It has fresh red cherry and strawberry flavours with spice. The fruitful front palate has balanced soft tannins that add complexity and a delightful nature to the red fruits. The end palate is still fruit full and elegant, has medium acid leaving the palate fresh and awaiting another sip. Perfect to pair with beef skewers on the barbecue with kasundi combined with an eggplant tomato and pine nut roast with zaatar.

Vegan Friendly.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Experienced wine exporters, vignerons and domestic wine sellers. The Byrne difference is quality focused, innovative and estate grown wines from grape to glass.

Celebrating 60 years and 4 generations, the Byrne family range of wines express our dedication to sustainability and land regeneration practices, with our ethos to minimise harm and maximise benefits to the environment.

From the banks of the Murray River in which our vineyard grows, our prized estate wines reflect the love that goes into our land, delivering richness and complexity into each glass.

It all began almost half a century ago when the first vines were planted in a spot handpicked for its stony soils over the limestone base. Combine that with the warm embrace of a dry climate and generous sunshine, and you have the perfect recipe for grape varieties bursting with flavour and resilience.
