Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

In 1913, eager to expand the flourishing family business, the viticultural pioneer, E.J. Roberts spotted an ideal place next to the Melbourne to Mildura railway line. Foiled by the local railway Engineer in his attempts to lease the land, the founder went straight to the Chairman of Railway Commissioners in Melbourne. As his diary relates, "After quite a friendly all-round talk…he told the Engineer to let me have it". Commissioner's Block is a tribute to the Commissioner, the wines reflect the character of the region and the passion of the grape grower and the winemaker.

Made from selected vineyards in Langhorne Creek; one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. The vines sit atop an ancient natural floodplain with fertile alluvial soils perfect for grape growing. The region has a proud history of family owned and run vineyards; Shiraz was first planted in the mid 1800s.

A stunning Shiraz, only free run and first pressings of 100% Shiraz grapes were used in this wine resulting in an intricate aroma of ripe cherry, blueberry and mulberry aromas with spicy notes like black pepper and accompanied with subtle tobacco, caramel and lightly roasted coffee beans which gently ascends from the glass, beautifully complimenting the full bodied palate full of rich fruit driven flavours. One for the cellar but can be enjoyed now.
