Wine Summary Image

Varieties - Tempranillo (64%), Grenache (23%), Graciano (13%)

The vinous rematch of the 1811 Battle at Barrosa Ridge where Spain fought off attacking French forces. La Conquista! pitches Tempranillo and Garnacha on the attack, ruffling feathers amongst the Barossa Old Guard varieties of French descent. The original Spanish spelling of Barrosa honours the original name given to our Barossa Valley by Colonel Light who fought in the 1811 battle.

Drink at your local too-cool-for-school laneway tapas bar or at home with rare lamb or homemade pizza.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Tempranillo parcels from Gomersal on the Western ridge and Williamstown in the Barossa’s southern hills were individually matured for seven months, in seasoned American and French puncheons and Hogsheads, then blended with Garnacha from 50 year old vines in the Lyndoch foothills picked late February, giving the ripe juicy fruit needed to flesh out the structure of Tempranillo’s complex and savoury fruit. The final blend is 64% tempranillo and 23% old vine garnacha and 13% graciano. cherry and cola aromas mingle with hints of chocolate and spicy orals. a dark yet luminous crimson colour hints at the rich semi-savoury dark cherry and cola palate that nishes with a hint of grenache red cherry juiciness.

Winery Profile

Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. is Barossa rebooted.

Our wines make statements as bold as their avant-garde labels! Minimal intervention winemaking emphasises pure structured fruit and utilises the lost art of judicious small batch blending. The wines we make are the styles that epitomise the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

Winemaker Daniel Chaffey Hartwig is the most recent of the Chaffey Brothers’ descendants to ply the ancient trade. Barossa born and bred, he was immersed in the wine business from an early age and spent 11 years working as a wine consultant to Australia’s leading winemakers. The birth of Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. represents the fruition of a life long dream. In 2012 Daniel was joined by brother-in-law Theo Engela as the other “Chaffey Brother”.
