A vatted malt creation from Tasmania’s Heartwood, arguably Australia’s most lauded independent bottler. Whisky from casks LD766 (Lark), RD166 (Redlands – now Old Kempton) and PB121 (Belgrove), all of which were sherry casks. There is a total of 358 bottles in this release at 61.2%.

In Heartwood’s Tim Duckett’s own words: “It is composed of 100 litres of a flat old Lark LD 766 + a lively 80 litres from Old Kempton RD 166 and to give our concoction a tail, 180 ml of a smoky, peaty brute from Belgrove PB 121. We have created a fat serpent, an asp, or maybe Quetzalcoatl. Regardless this one has great persistence and length and is colourful.”Heartwood – founded by Tim Duckett – is arguably Australia’s most lauded independent bottler, having bottled a number of Tasmanian whiskies in the modern industry’s formative years. Known for his unorthodox techniques of blending casks, beating his whisky with a paddle, rolling casks into the sun-exposed “hot box” of his warehouse – some Heartwoods are considered by whisky lovers to be amongst the best Australian whiskies ever released.
