Iron is an essential mineral needed for healthy red blood cells because it helps form haemoglobin, a special protein that carries oxygen to tissues throughout the body.

There are two forms of dietary iron: haem iron, found in animal products; and non-haem iron, found in plant sources. Haem iron can be found in liver, lean red meat, chicken, fish,

shellfish and organ meats. Non-haem iron can be found in green leafy vegetables, beetroot,

tofu, fruit, dried fruit, nuts and legumes.

Extra iron may be required because of low dietary intakes, a vegetarian diet, pregnancy and breastfeeding, heavy menstruation, decreased stomach acidity, aging, or digestive and intestinal malabsorption conditions. Teenagers and children may also need more iron due to fussy or inadequate eating patterns.  

Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world.1 Common symptoms include tiring easily, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, poor immunity, impaired cognition and mood disturbances.

Iron deficiency responds to supplementation within 2 weeks; however 6-12 months may be required to build up the body’s iron stores. Iron status should be tested before taking iron tablets. Only supplement when recommended by your healthcare professional.

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient which significantly aids iron absorption. 20mg of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) has been shown to increase non-haem iron absorption by 39%.2

Directions:; Adults: Take 1 tablet daily 1 hour before food, or as directed by your healthcare professional.

Cautions: Always read the label. Use strictly as directed. If symptoms persist consult your healthcare professional. Contraindicated in haemochromatosis (high blood iron levels). If taking prescription medicines or other dietary supplements, take Organic Iron Plus Vitamin C 2 hours before or after these medications. Do not take Organic Iron Plus Vitamin C with tea, coffee, chocolate or alcohol, as these may reduce absorption. Excess iron can be harmful to health. Only supplement with iron when indicated.
