Our Cape to Cape -white label- wines are approachable, fruit driven wines made for enjoying now and over the short term.

The 2022 season was a little warmer than 2015 and, combined with our usual cool overnight temperatures, this ensured great flavour development in all the parcels of fruit that make up this blend. Most of the fruit is from our vineyards in Mt Barker, with a smaller portion from the ever reliable Frankland River region.

Winery Tasting Notes

A very deep and dark crimsony red in colour. Good depth of the fragrant, rich, dark berry fruit aromas so typical of these varieties; eg boysenberry and blackberry along with a ‘cherry ripe’ character adding complexity. Has a well weighted palate with lovely, sweet and fresh dark plum fruit flavours along with those delicious dark berry fruits. Typical of Cabernet, it’s well structured with these generous dark berry fruit flavours complemented by the chewy and drying tannins picked up from the skin contact during fermentation

Winery Profile

Located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, West Cape Howe is the most southerly point, rising some 250 metres above the Southern Ocean. It is thought that the first explorers to this coastline were Dutch seafarers in 1627 aboard their 'Fluyt' class vessel "Gulden Zeepaard" (Golden Seahorse).

The winery is named after this magnificent landmark to pay respect not only to the natural beauty of the region, but also in recognition of the extreme influence of the Southern Ocean on the area's viticulture. The rugged coastline is home to some stunning white beaches, sheltered coves and great rock climbing sites.

West Cape Howe Wines is owned by a partnership including Gavin Berry (until 2004, senior winemaker at Plantaganet), and viticulturist, Rob Quenby. It was founded in 1997 and soon became one of the fastest growing wine brands in Western Australia, now producing around 60,000 cases annually. Over time, it has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state, giving it unrivalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.
